Prague Has Clowns – Open Classes

Weekly Clown Course

Mondays: February 9th to June 29th

A weekly evening of contemporary clown practice, play, and joyful stupidity.

These classes are about being silly, getting lost, failing in public, and discovering why that’s often when things get funny. We’ll work with playfulness, vulnerability, optimism, and pleasure — no red noses, no pressure to be clever, just showing up and seeing what happens.

What we practice

• Playing freely and following impulse

• Failing comfortably (and repeatedly)

• Finding laughter through honesty rather than jokes

• Staying present when you’re confused or “doing it wrong”

• Enjoying being seen without knowing what you’re doing

• Trusting pleasure, optimism, and simplicity

• Building a shared language and community through consistent practice

Who it’s for

These classes are for people curious about contemporary clown who want a regular space to practice.

You might be:

• A performer, actor, dancer, circus artist, or theatre-maker

• A comedian or improviser interested in something less polished

• An artist wanting to reconnect with play, risk, and pleasure

• Someone with some performance experience looking to train weekly

• Or simply a human who enjoys laughter, failure, and trying again

You don’t need to be funny. You don’t need to have a plan. You do need a willingness to show up, play, and be seen.

Who it’s not for

This may not be the right fit if you’re looking for:

• A technique-heavy or step-by-step method

• Joke writing, sketch comedy, or stand-up training

• Fast results, tidy answers, or guaranteed outcomes

• A passive class where you can stay hidden

• Traditional circus clowning (makeup, characters, routines)

The work is slow, human, sometimes awkward, and often joyful. Progress comes through practice, not perfection.

FAQ

Do I need prior clown experience?

No. Some performance experience is helpful, but curiosity and willingness matter more than background.

These classes are designed as a weekly practice rather than drop-in sessions. If you’re unsure, get in touch and we can talk it through.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes you can move and play in.

What happens in a typical class?

Simple exercises, games, short improvisations, watching each other work, and lots of learning through doing (and failing).

Is this about being funny?
